Proactive Agent

Most of the time the agent waits for you. With the heartbeat turned on, it doesn't have to. The agent periodically considers whether anything is worth telling you about and, if so, reaches out. If nothing is, it stays quiet.

The heartbeat is off by default and entirely opt-in. The agent never messages you unprompted unless you turn it on.

How it works

On the cadence you set, the agent wakes up and looks at what it knows — your context, what it's been working on, anything it's been keeping an eye on. Then it makes a judgment call:

  • If there's something worth your attention, it sends you a message.
  • If there isn't, it does nothing. No "still here" pings, no filler. Silence means there was nothing worth interrupting you for.

The point is to reach out only when it earns the interruption.

Turning it on

You can enable the heartbeat in the setup wizard under behavior, or in the app's settings later. It's a single toggle, off until you flip it.

Cadence and active hours

Two settings control when the heartbeat runs:

  • Cadence — how often the agent checks in on itself. More frequent means it notices things sooner; less frequent means it considers reaching out less often.
  • Active hours — the window during which it's allowed to reach out, so it doesn't message you in the middle of the night. Outside these hours it stays quiet.

Tune both to fit how closely you want the agent watching and when you're open to hearing from it.

Where it reaches you

When the agent does decide to reach out, it messages you on your primary connected channel — the channel you've set as the main way it talks to you. Connect a channel first (see Channels); the heartbeat delivers there.
